What we do

We provide care, counselling and support to foreigners in need of assistance and protection in Austria within the framework of our legal mandate.

The legal framework of our activities is described in the BBU Establishment Act. Accordingly, quality care, as well as independent and personalised legal advice, have the highest priority. Our repatriation counsellors mostly come from one of the countries of origin and can bring this experience into their work with the clients. Human rights observers help to ensure that human rights standards are maintained during out-of-country transfers. Our interpreters promote our clients’ understanding of the possibilities or consequences of their own case.

"The Federal Agency for Reception and Support Services takes care of asylum seekers, refugees and other people in need of and entitled to basic federal care. In order for us to be able to counsel, assist and support our clients to the best of our abilities, it is important that all employees of BBU pull together and collaborate in a professional and transparent manner.”
